Named after the Vesuvius volcano
Vesuvianite is a mineral named after the famous Vesuvius volcano in Italy. This is where the mineral was first described. An older name for this mineral is indocrase, but it is not used much anymore. However, you may come across it in older collections or guides. Vesuvianite can be green, brown yellow or black and in exceptional cases also blue purple or colourless.
Tetragonal crystals
These shiny dark vesuvianite crystals come from Alchuri and Hachupa, in the Shigar Valley, Skardu in Pakistan. The crystals have the typical tetragonal structure, which looks like stretched cubes with rounded corners. Here the vesuvianite is found in limestone deposits.
Working of vesuvianite
Vesuvianite can help to release anger and expel negativity. It reduces the feeling of claustrophobia within a relationship and helps to break invisible chains. Negative thoughts are counteracted and unfounded fears can be addressed. The stone helps to be loyal to family and friends and promotes team spirit.
