History of sapphire

Sapphires have been found in Sri Lanka since ancient times. The sapphire was said to confer power, honor and immortality on its owner. The stone became so loved that at one point all blue stones were called sapphire. It was not until the 19th century that it received its own classification within the Corundum group, together with the Ruby.
