Happy colours
Cactus quartz is characterised by a large quartz crystal covered with smaller. Usually this is amethyst, but this can also occur in citrine and smoky quartz or in a beautiful combination such as these cactus quartz pieces in 'happy colours'.
How does amethyst and citrine originate?
Amethyst is a purple variant of quartz and owes its typical purple colour to the presence of iron that is coloured purple by the ionising radiation (i.e. radioactive radiation) of the earth. The yellow colour of citrine is caused by trace elements, especially bivalent and trivalent iron.
